Manchin's Move

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin announced an agreement to add significant climate change and clean energy provisions to the FY2022 Budget Reconciliation Legislation, now called the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Senator Joe Manchin

“I now propose and will vote for the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Rather than risking more inflation with trillions in new spending, this bill will cut the inflation taxes Americans are paying, lower the cost of health insurance and prescription drugs, and ensure our country invests in the energy security and climate change solutions we need to remain a global superpower through innovation rather than elimination. Whether it is the threats to our energy security, high inflation, exploding national debt, persistent income inequality, supply chain chaos or the emergence of a new Cold War, it is time to put away the partisan swords and advance legislation that is in the best interests of the future of this nation and the American people we all represent – not just one party.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 Includes:

  • Historic deficit reduction to fight inflation
  • Lowers energy costs increases, cleaner production, and reduces carbon emissions by roughly 40 percent by 2030
  • Allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices and caps out-of-pocket costs to $2,000
  • Lowers ACA health care premiums for millions of Americans
  • Make biggest corporations and ultra-wealthy pay their fair share
  • There are no new taxes on families making $400,000 or less and no new taxes on small businesses – we are closing tax loopholes and enforcing the tax code.

WHO Monkeypox Warning

WHO Director-General Tedros

Under the International Health Regulations, I am required to consider five elements in deciding whether an outbreak constitutes a public health emergency of international concern.

First, the information provided by countries – which in this case shows that this virus has spread rapidly to many countries that have not seen it before;

Second, the three criteria for declaring a public health emergency of international concern, which have been met;

Third, the advice of the Emergency Committee, which has not reached consensus;

Fourth, scientific principles, evidence and other relevant information – which are currently insufficient and leave us with many unknowns;

And fifth, the risk to human health, international spread, and the potential for interference with international traffic.

Pass The CHIPS Plus Please

Congress Passes CHIPS Plus Bill by R.J. Matson, Portland, ME

President Joe Biden

The CHIPS and Science Act is exactly what we need to be doing to grow our economy right now. By making more semiconductors in the United States, this bill will increase domestic manufacturing and lower costs for families. And, it will strengthen our national security by making us less dependent on foreign sources of semiconductors.
This bill includes important guardrails to ensure that companies receiving tax payer dollars invest in America and that union workers are building new manufacturing plants across the country.
